Police committed to making Sri Sathya Sai a crime-free district, says SP

Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar reiterated that the police remained determined to make Sri Sathya Sai a crime-free and safe district, for which intensified crackdowns on drunk driving, public drinking and other anti-social activities would be conducted regularly.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the SP said that top priority was placed on saving lives through the robust implementation of road safety drives over time, and by strengthening law and order across the district.

During the past six months, police registered 364 drunk driving cases. Of these, 254 cases were charge-sheeted before the courts, imposing penalties amounting to ₹25.40 lakh. “This achievement is one of the highest levels of enforcement action in the State,” Mr. Satish Kumar said.

Four habitual or serious offenders were remanded to judicial custody, while the driving licences of eight repeat violators were suspended under the Motor Vehicles Act. The SP said that as many as 2,248 cases drinking at public place had been booked, and ₹8,56,400 had been collected in fines.

The SP urged the public to obey traffic rules, avoid drunk driving, and cooperate in making the district safer for all.
