Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha Member Vijay Vasanth has sought ₹500 crore to develop Kanniyakumari into a world-class tourism destination.
According to the press release, Mr. Vijay Vasanth has raised a matter of urgent public importance concerning tourism development in Kanniyakumari district.
In his submission, the MP highlighted that Kanniyakumari, located at the southernmost tip, where the Arabian sea, the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean converge is a destination of immense national pride and international significance. He added that lakhs of domestic and international tourists, as well as pilgrims, visit Kanniyakumari every year.
He urged the central government to implement a comprehensive tourism and infrastructure development plan to transform Kanniyakumari into a world-class international tourism destination.
He stressed the need for well-laid-out modern roads, improved public transportation, clean drinking water facilities, upgraded sanitation infrastructure, well-maintained beaches, barrier-free accessibility for differently abled persons, and strengthened coastal security measures.
Mr. Vijay Vasanth emphasised the need to promote modern marine tourism by introducing tourist cruise services, coastal boat services and sea transport connectivity linking major tourist destinations.
These initiatives, he said, would not only boost tourism but also create employment opportunities, strengthen the local economy and further enhance India’s global reputation as premier tourist destination.
