Over 12,000 devotees climbed the Sathuragiri hills on Monday (August 10, 2026) to offer worship at Sri Sundaramahalingam Temple atop the hill ahead of Aadi Amavasai festival.
The devotees would be allowed to trek on the hilly terrain for four days since Monday for the festival. The devotees from far and near thronged the foothills of the Sathuragiri hills at Thaniparai since early morning.
They were permitted to climb the hills only between 6 a.m. and 12 noon. They were not allowed to stay back on the hilltop in the night.
Demo staged
Meanwhile, Revenue Department officials in Virudhunagar staged a demonstration on Monday, protesting against police “high-handedness” against one of their officials at Thaniparai.
One of the Deputy Tahsildars complained that a police constable posted at the check post pushed his mobile phone down.
