The Kumbakonam West Police have arrested Veda Selvam of Kumbakonam, a BJP party functionary, on charges of carrying lethal weapons in his car on Sunday night.
According to the police, BJP Thanjavur North District Unit general secretary Veda Selvam was on his way to Kumbakonam from Muthupettai in Tiruvarur district when his car was intercepted by a police team conducting vehicle checks in Kumbakonam on the night of August 9.
During the search, the police found some lethal weapons in Veda Selvam’s car. After seizing the arms and the car, the Kumbakonam West Police registered a case against BJP party functionary on charges of carrying lethal arms with him and produced him before a Judicial Magistrate Court in Kumbakonam on Monday wherein Veda Selvam was remanded to 15-day judicial custody.
