The Langer Houz police arrested six persons involved in an organised attention-diversion theft and recovered 13.5 tolas of gold ornaments, ₹7.4 lakh in cash and two vehicles.
The case was registered on August 1 based on a complaint by Dama Mohan, 71, a retired SBI bank manager from Humnabad in Bidar district, Karnataka. The theft took place near a restaurant in Langer Houz. The stolen property comprised four gold bangles weighing seven tolas, three gold chains weighing three tolas, a gold locket weighing 1.2 tolas and three gold rings weighing 2.3 tolas, totalling 13.5 tolas.
The six accused were traced at Shah Ghouse near Tolichowki at around 12.12 a.m. on August 16. Police said they confessed to committing the offence during questioning.
The accused were identified as Syed Asad, 46, an auto driver; Omer Khan, 27, a chicken centre worker; Syed Moin, 34, an auto driver; Azar Hussain, 24, a paint worker; Mohd Ibrahim, 30, a band worker; and Syed Abdul Majeed, 35, a vegetable vendor.
Police said Asad, Ibrahim and Majeed had rowdy sheets against them in Chandrayanagutta, and Charminar police stations, while Hussain was a rowdy sheeter in Santoshnagar police station.
Apart from gold ornaments and cash, police seized an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TG 11 T 5919, a motorcycle bearing registration number AP 11 AD 3426 and six mobile phones from the accused.
