Pendurthi MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu has urged the State government to take immediate steps to rehabilitate and relocate residents of Thadi village in Anakapalli district, citing safety concerns due to several pharmaceutical units in and around the village.
The MLA explained that in view of the repeated accidents reported in the pharma units surrounding the village and the pollution cause by the industries, the government should take immediate steps to relocate the residents of the village to a safer location. Stressing the significance of the relocation, he said it is necessary to protect the lives and health of the residents, who have been living in close proximity to the industrial units for many years.
Speaking during the ongoing Assembly session, Mr. Babu reiterated the relocation had remained a long-pending demand of the villagers, who had been seeking rehabilitation for nearly two decades.
The MLA said the demand for shifting the village had been repeatedly raised over the years, but no concrete action had been taken so far.
Mr. Babu also recalled that the NDA government had promised during the elections to relocate the villagers. However, even after two years in office, there had been no significant progress on the issue, he added.
Urging the Ministers concerned and the State government to intervene without further delay, the MLA said a concrete rehabilitation plan should be prepared and implemented at the earliest.
“Since the village is surrounded by pharma units, if something unfortunate happens, it would be disastrous,” he said, stressing the need for preventive action rather than waiting for an accident to occur.
