A ‘Gen Z Vigilance Watchdog Committee’ comprising young lawyers, RTI activists and IT professionals will soon be constituted to monitor development works, town planning permissions and other civic issues in the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (MCK) limits, said Congress party Karimnagar Assembly constituency in-charge Velchala Rajender Rao on Saturday.

Addressing the media in Karimnagar, Mr. Rao said the committee would monitor civic works at the field level, promote transparency in the utilisation of public funds and enable people to report alleged irregularities.

Its contact numbers would be publicised at major junctions and through social media to facilitate complaints on civic issues, including violation of town planning and building norms, he said.

Referring to the recent Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) inspection at the Town Planning section of the MCK, Mr. Rao said it highlighted the need for a transparent and corruption-free system.

He alleged that complaints of corruption had increased under the BJP-ruled MCK compared with the BRS administration.
