The Communist Party of India has urged the Central Bureau of Investigation to appeal in the Supreme Court against the Madras High Court order setting aside the conviction of former legislator Ashok Anand in a disproportionate asset case.

Party secretary A. M. Saleem in a release said a Special Court of Puducherry had convicted Mr. Anand and his father C. Anandan, a retired PWD officer, in a corruption case. The former legislator had appealed in the High Court challenging the special court order. The HC has recently set aside the conviction. The CBI should approach the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling given by the High Court, the release said.
