Tension prevails at Namaskarithanpatti near here since Tuesday after people belonging to two caste groups raised objections over the other putting up of a public address system for different events.

Police have been posted in the area as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, around 90 people belonging to one group squatted on the street in protest against ‘partial’ action in removing the flag pole of one group.

Police said that following simmering differences between two groups, it was decided during a peace meeting to ban erection of flex banners and use of the public address system. After a family belonging to one group erected a banner for a marriage function, another group put up a public address system for another function. They also erected a flag pole for their caste group. After complaints from both sides, revenue officials and police removed the flag and the banner.

However, onee group complained that the officials did not remove the flag pole put up by the other group. Revenue officials promised to conduct a land survey to find out if the pole was on poramboke land before removing it.
