Home Minister Priyank Kharge has directed prosecution officers and government advocates to ensure effective representation of the government’s interests in courts and prevent cases from being weakened due to procedural lapses or lack of coordination.
Reviewing the functioning of the Department of Prosecution and Government Litigation, Mr. Kharge said coordination between departments concerned, investigating officers and government advocates must begin from the initial stage of a case rather than being limited to court arguments.
He stressed that government cases should not suffer due to gaps in the system, inadequate information or poor coordination between departments. Officials must ensure that government advocates receive the complete case background, relevant documents, facts and legal information within the stipulated time.
Mr. Kharge called for greater use of technology in managing government litigation. Case details, documents, progress reports and court orders should be maintained systematically so that government advocates can access the required information quickly and monitor cases effectively.
The Home Minister reviewed the progress of the cases under various laws and directed officials to give priority to effective legal action and speedy handling of cases involving women, children and members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The appointment of special public prosecutors for 416 important pending cases across courts in the State was also reviewed.
The Minister stressed the need for effective representation of the government in sensitive and important cases and regular monitoring of their progress.
