Cooking oil seeds clusters to be set up in Virudhunagar district

Department of Agriculture has planned to increase the production of cooking oil seeds through the National Cooking Oil Mission by setting up value-addition clusters and demonstration plots in Virudhunagar district.

In a statement, Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra, said that the groundnut cluster and demonstration plot would be set up in Kariyapatti, M. Reddiyapatti, Narikudi, Watrap, Virudhunagar and Aruppukottai blocks.

The groundnut cluster would be established on 1,000 hectares of farmland, and the farmers would be given new groundnut varieties within seven years. New technologies for higher yields would be implemented to increase production, the statement said.

Besides, oil production is planned by buying groundnuts through the Farmers Producers’ Organisation. The demonstration plots, each cluster of 20 hectacres, would be established on 100 hectare.

Similarly, a value-addition cluster of 300 hectares for sunflower and demonstration plots on 100 hectares would be set up in Virudhunagar, Aruppukottai and M. Reddiyapatti blocks.
