Fifty four kg of dry ganja was seized from two north Indian passengers travelling in Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur express at Tirunelveli Railway Junction on Saturday night.
The accused were identified as M. Sardar Biswas (44) of Kaizpara in West Bengal and K. Urmila Sahoo (46) of Odisha.
The contraband were seized during a joint drive conducted by NIB-CID and RPF personnel at Tirunelveli railway station.
The team comprising NIB-CID Inspector of Police, Karthikai Selvi, and a team of RPF personnel, led by Sub-Inspector, M. Siva Raja, checked an air-conditioned coach after the train arrived at Tirunelveli at around 10 p.m.
Upon checking their baggage, the team found 54 kg of dry ganja concealed inside three trolley bags.
The contraband was handed over the NIB-CID sleuths for further enquiry.
