The South Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SCoRWWO) hosted an essay competition for the children of railway employees at the Railway Officers’ Club in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (September 13, 2026).
Led by SCoRWWO president Charu Mathur, the event saw a turnout of over 50 participants in each of the three designated age categories. The initiative was designed to foster reading habits, creative expression, and critical thinking on contemporary issues among the youth.
Participants were given on-the-spot topics tailored to their age groups. Children aged between 6 and 9 wrote on ‘Healthy Food’ and ‘My Class Teacher,’ while those in the 10 to 12 bracket tackled ‘Importance of Recreation Activities’ and ‘Joint Family or Nuclear Family.’ The oldest, aged 13 to 15, addressed broader societal themes, including ‘High Population of the Country: Boon or Curse’ and ‘Gen-Z.’
Organisers said the young writers displayed a high level of enthusiasm and diverse perspectives in addressing their respective subjects. Following the competition, Ms. Mathur distributed certificates and prizes to the winners. The event was attended by SCoRWWO secretary Anju Gupta, treasurer Swarnalatha, and other executive members.
