Ahead of the consecration of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, the Food Safety Department has ramped up inspections to ensure hygiene and safety for the visiting pilgrims.
Authorities have granted official permission to 21 approved organisers to distribute food (annadanam) to approximately 85,000 devotees across various locations around the temple starting September 15.
To oversee food standards, a dedicated team of 13 food safety officers has been deployed to continuously inspect eateries, bakeries, and shops surrounding the temple premises throughout September 17.
As part of the quality control drive, mobile food testing units have collected 76 food samples from local restaurants, stalls, and annadanam distribution points.
Organisers planning to distribute annadanam are required to secure formal clearance by applying online through foscos.fssai.gov.in.
