Eradication of 673.860 hectares of Prosopis Juliflora initiated in Dharmapuri

The district administration has declared 673.860 hectares of area as under Prosopis Juliflora (Seemai Kavuvelam) and has formed a monitoring committee to oversee the eradication of the invasive species.

According to the district administration, in compliance with the Madras High Court orders directing the eradication of Prosopis Juliflora, a total area of 673.860 ha has been identified in village panchayat tanks as invaded by the weed. Block level reports have identified the said area under the village panchayats.

Removal of Prosopis Julieflora has commenced in the village panchayats from September 8. District Collector V. Saravanan said that the Highways, Public Works, Water Resources departments and Municipalities have also taken up the works for the eradication,
