The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) protested in south Delhi’s Satya Niketan, alleging the death of a girl in one of the several paying guest accommodations that dot the area, and accused the city police of “hiding” the incident.
AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj and party workers raised slogans against the local BJP MLA and the police.
“Delhi Police should provide information on whether a girl fell to her death in a nearby paying guest facility. Why is the police silent on the entire matter?” Mr. Bharadwaj asked.
An officer responded, “We have already shared all the details. There is nothing new or additional.” The AAP also attacked BJP MLA Anil Sharma, alleging that despite “evidence” of his “illegal” PG in Satya Niketan, the police took no action because they have no courage.
“Four years ago, a written complaint was given against MLA Sharma by Ambedkar Kalyan Samiti for encroaching on government land and illegal construction of a ‘five-star’ PG at Satya Niketan. No action was taken then by MCD and police,” Mr. Bharadwaj claimed.
The BJP was yet to respond to the allegations.
Mr. Bharadwaj also shared a copy of the complaint the Samiti submitted four years ago to then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
“In the complaint, the committee stated that it was reporting a land scam involving former BJP MLA Sharma, who had demolished and taken possession of houses belonging to residents of Moti Bagh Nanakpura,” Mr. Bharadwaj said.
On September 6, a five-storey building housing a boys’ hostel in a congested bylane in Satya Niketan near Delhi University’s South Campus collapsed, killing seven people.
Since the collapse, the AAP has been alleging that Mr. Sharma and other politicians own several establishments in the area, but they are being shielded by authorities.
