Two persons were found dead near Ervadi in Ramanathapuram district on Tuesday. The police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of their deaths.

The police said daily wage workers Ganesan alias Riyas (55) and Gopi (40), residents of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Chinnamayakulam near Ervadi, were found dead by local residents on Tuesday morning in an area filled with karuvelam trees in Thiruvalluvar Nagar. The residents subsequently informed the police.

Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh inspected the scene. The Ervadi police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The police said blood was oozing from the eyes, ears and nose of both men. There were only abrasion injuries on their bodies and no cut injuries, they said.

Liquor and water bottles were found lying nearby. However, Mr. Chandeesh said an investigation was under way and four special teams had been formed.

The police said both men had been consuming alcohol throughout the day and it was not known what happened afterwards. The cause of death would be known only after the post-mortem examination, they added.
