H. Prabhakar, distinguished interventional cardiologist from Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital in the city, has been elected as the national vice-president of the Indian College of Cardiology at its national meet held in Kochi recently.
Dr. Prabhakar has played a pioneering role in establishing and advancing interventional cardiology across Coastal Karnataka, Malnad Karnataka, and North Karnataka. He was among the first interventional cardiologists in the region to introduce and perform advanced procedures, namely coronary angioplasty, device closure of congenital heart defects, valvuloplasty etc.
For the past 25 years, he has been heading the Department of Cardiology as chief interventional cardiologist at FMCH. He also holds the distinction of being the first cardiologist to organise an international cardiology conference in Mangaluru thereby placing the city on the national and international cardiology map. He has served as the vice-president of the Karnataka chapter of the Cardiological Society of India and as president of the Mangalore Association of Physicians of India.
Fr. Faustin Lucas Lobo, director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, congratulated Dr. Prabhakar on his election.
