An 18-year-old Agniveer aspirant died after collapsing during a physical endurance test as part of an Army recruitment rally at RK Beach Road in Visakhapatnam in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Ginni Seshagiri Rao (18), a native of Pedanchala village under Rentikota in Palasa mandal of Srikakulam district.
According to the police, Seshagiri Rao had travelled to Visakhapatnam to participate in the recruitment rally and participated in the run conducted at around 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday. He completed the run and qualified in the event.
However, shortly after completing the run, he reportedly had difficulty breathing, collapsed and lost consciousness at the venue.
He was immediately shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam for treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, his condition deteriorated and he died while undergoing treatment at around 1.57 p.m.
Following a complaint lodged by his mother, Ginni Balamma, the III Town police registered a case and launched an investigation.
