The rescue operators have recovered the body of a 30-year-old woman from Malappuram, who was swept away by a sudden flash flood in the Iruvanjippuzha river near the Kalampara hanging bridge in Kozhikode district.
Her body was recovered after a four-hour search in the river on Tuesday night (September 15, 2026).
According to Fire and Rescue Service personnel, Jesna, wife of Abdul Khader from Kizhisseri, visited the tourist spot along with a nine-member group comprising two men, three women and four children.
Following heavy rainfall in the upper forest region, the water level in the Iruvanjippuzha suddenly rose to an alarming level on Tuesday evening. According to the other members of the group, Jesna was sitting on a rock in the river when she was swept away.
The search operation was coordinated by the Mukkam Fire and Rescue Services personnel with the support of the Kodanchery police and a group of local residents.
Tourists have been urged to stay alert in the wake of the incident.
