The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) inaugurated the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ fortnight campaign at its head office in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. Designed around the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” the drive aims to strengthen community action, improve public hygiene, and build sustainable waste practices, according to a release.

The event opened with a mass cleaning drive around the Administrative Office Building.

Officials stated the fortnight initiative aligns with the Centre’s guidelines, concentrating on five key pillars: converting difficult-to-clean spots into target units, engaging youth through Swachh Paathshala, hosting health camps for sanitation workers (SafaiMitras), and encouraging public participation.

The campaign features three key dates: the official launch on September 17, a nationwide one-hour cleanliness drive titled “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” on October 1, and the grand finale on Swachh Bharat Diwas, October 2.

Port stakeholders, trade unions, stevedores, and local students will participate in daily sanitation drives, tree plantations, and awareness programs across the port city throughout the campaign.
