Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman chaired a meeting to review the preparedness for the northeast monsoon at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

The meeting conducted with line departments sought to ascertain the department-wise preparedness to face the monsoon and assess the vulnerabilities of the district.

The Collector advised the line departments to identity and map vulnerable areas, create a database on identified areas with first respondents, and audit their preparedness via relief camps and basic amenities.

They were also assessed for the readiness of interventions, rescue and relief operations with earthmovers, inflatables and motor boats, tree cutters, fire extinguishers, diesel generators, sand bags, and wooden logs, among others.

The departments of revenue and public works have been directed to ensure desilting of waterbodies and setting up of embankments and culverts to prevent inundation and flooding. The Collector has also instructed the local body administrations to visit low-lying areas and clear up drainage channels.
