Man sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment in POCSO case

The Special Court for Cases under the POCSO Act in Nagapattinam on Friday sentenced a 50-year-old man to five years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in 2024.

The court imposed ₹2,000 fine on the convict, identified as P. Shanmuga Rajan of Keelaiyur.

According to police, the accused sexually assaulted the girl when she was alone at home. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case under Section 506(ii) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 8 r/w 7 of the POCSO Act, 2012. The accused was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
