Nellore DLSA Chairman assures free legal counsel for poor prisoners

Nellore District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman and Principal Judge A. Narasimha Murthy has assured to provide free legal counsel to the poor prisoners under-trial without legal representation. As per the Andhra Pradesh High Court directives, a legal awareness seminar was held at the District Central Jail in Kakuturu on Saturday (September 19, 2026).

He spoke to the prisoners and inquired about the arrangements for meals and medical facilities. Later, he asked the details regarding their cases. He advised them not to repeat past mistakes—whether committed knowingly or unknowingly—and urged them to lead a good life upon their release and to take good care of their parents, wives, and children.

Mr. Murthy instructed the prisoner to contact the legal counsel members if they require any assistance. He said that arrangements were made to appoint a Para-Legal Volunteer at the central prison, through whom petitions could be submitted if needed. He opened the grievance box and examined. He also discussed with female inmates to understand their situation.

DLSA Secretary and Senior Civil Judge Y.J. Padmasree, Central Jail Additional Superintendent Venkateswarlu, Jailor Rafi, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Gopal Reddy, and Deputy Chief Legal Aid Counsel G. Subbamma, and other officials were present during the seminar.
