Vinayaka idols immersed in Thoothukudi beaches

Amid tight security, the idols of Lord Vinayaka were immersed in Thoothukudi on Sunday.

Around 92 idols were taken in procession and immersed in the sea. Idols installed at Tiruchendur, Udangudi, Sathankulam, Nazareth, Authoor, Arumuganeri, Kovilpatti and Vilathikulam were immersed during the last few days.

The final phase of immersions in Thoothukudi Corporation limits was held on Sunday. Around 57 idols installed by various organisations, including Hindu Munnai and Hindu Makkal Katchi, were brought to Thapas Mandapam near Sivan temple and the procession began from there.

The idols went through North Car Street, Kasukkadai Bazar, Fist Gate, Mattakadai and Beach Road before being taken to Therespuram, where they were immersed at Sangumugam beach.

Similarly, around 35 idols installed at Muthiahpuram, Pudukottai and surrounding areas were taken in procession and immersed near New Port Beach in Thoothukudi. Small idols installed and worshiped at homes in Thoothukudi city and suburban areas were also immersed in the sea.

Elaborate security arrangements were made for the procession and immersion under the supervision of Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police R. Shiva Prasad.
