Karnataka CM considering closing down KPSC in light of alleged irregularities in recruitment

In the light of alleged irregularities in recruitment in Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that he was discussing with experts the possibility of shutting down the KPSC. Alongside, he expressed displeasure over the High Court of Karnataka choosing officers to be part of a special investigation team to probe the alleged irregularities.

“Scams have increased in KPSC. I am discussing with experts to close it down within the ambit of law. Thieves have joined the commission. The officials whom we trusted and appointed are indulging in these things,” the Chief Minister told presspersons in Bengaluru on September 22 after participating in the 50^th foundation day of State-owned Keonics.

He said, “Members in the commission have opened a shop there. Our police officers have collected the documents, and it will all come out one day.”

Welcoming the high court’s directive to set up the SIT to probe KSPC irregularities, Mr. Shivakumar said that choice of officers to be part of SIT could have been given to the State Government. “Enforcement Directorate is also probing the case. However, the investigation by our police is going on well. Court could have monitored the investigation. Forming the SIT is one thing, but State Government should have been given the freedom to appoint officers. I have received calls about it from Delhi and other States. I am seeking the opinion of legal experts on this.”

Stating that the future of students is important for the government, he said that, for the same reason, former chief minister Siddaramaiah had reduced the number of members in the KPSC. “The members whom we trusted and appointed in a transparent manner have done this.”
