An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) soldier who had returned to his village while on leave died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a tractor near Gadasahalli on Kanakapura bypass road on Monday (September 21) evening.
The deceased has been identified as Channaveeregowda, 45, a resident of Shivanahalli in Kanakapura taluk. He was serving with the ITBP and had come to his hometown a few days ago.
The incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. when he was riding the motorcycle with his 14-year-old son, Advaith, as pillion rider. According to the police, a tractor travelling ahead allegedly applied sudden brakes, following which the motorcycle rammed into it.
Channaveeregowda suffered severe head injuries and sustained a serious impact to his chest. Advaith escaped with minor injuries.
Channaveeregowda was rushed to Kanakapura Government Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. His family members alleged that he did not receive adequate and timely treatment at the hospital and accused the staff of negligence.
The Kanakapura Traffic Police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered against the tractor driver for rash and negligent driving resulting in death, and further investigation is under way.
