The Wilson Garden police arrested a 32-year-old suspected house burglar from Telangana who allegedly travelled to Bengaluru by flight to commit theft and was tracked down to Varanasi, where he had gone on a religious trip.
The accused has been identified as Nenavat Vinod Kumar alias Mohammed Bashir, 32, son of Bicha Nayak, a resident of Balaji Nagar in Keshavagiri, K.V. Rangareddy district, Telangana. Vinod is a B.Com graduate and works as a driver.
The police said Vinod allegedly targeted a house on 10th Cross, Wilson Garden, and fled with gold ornaments. The complainant, Shobha Lakkur, 67, approached the police, following which a case was registered.
According to the police, Vinod was traced to Varanasi after investigators analysed technical evidence and details related to a vehicle booking made by him. The investigation led the police from Bengaluru to Delhi and subsequently to Varanasi, where the accused had gone on a religious trip.
The police said the accused had allegedly travelled to Bengaluru by flight, committed the burglary, and subsequently left the city. His movements and vehicle-booking details helped investigators track him down. The police allegedly recovered 271 gm of gold ornaments worth around ₹40 lakh from the accused.
The police said Vinod has a history of house burglaries in Hyderabad, with around 30 cases registered against him at various police stations. The Wilson Garden case is reportedly his first recorded burglary case in Bengaluru.
