Four occupants of a car were killed after the vehicle rammed an omni bus from behind on the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway at Thuraimangalam in Perambalur town in the early hours of Thursday (September 24, 2026).
A group of seven persons were returning to Chennai from Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram district after attending a wedding when the fatal accident occurred at around 2.30 a.m., causing the death of four persons and injuring three others.
The police identified the deceased as R. Prabhakaran (30) of Rasikulam in Ramanathapuram district, K. Kaleeswaran (25), K. Surya (35), and her husband A. Karthi (38), all of whom hail from Orivayal in Ramanathapuram district.
The occupants of the car had come to Ramanathapuram district to attend the wedding of Karthi’s younger brother and were returning to Chennai in the vehicle, said police sources. Prabhakaran and Kaleeswaran were killed on the spot. Karthi succumbed to injuries at the Perambalur Government Hospital, while Surya succumbed to injuries later at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi where she was taken to for further treatment.
The 34 passengers who travelled in the omni bus to Chennai from Thoothukudi proceeded in an alternative bus arranged for them later, said police sources.
