Tourism Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban flagged off 26 BS-VI buses in the district on Thursday (September 24, 2026).
In a function held at Salem Old Bus Stand, the Minister flagged off the buses on behalf of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Salem division.
The Minister said that prioritising the livelihoods of the public, including women, workers, and students, existing bus routes were either extended, or new bus services were inaugurated. In Salem, 26 old buses operated by the TNSTC Salem division, from the Old Bus Stand, are replaced with BS-VI buses and their service was inaugurated on Thursday, the Minister added.
The Minister stated that these buses are equipped with air suspension systems for enhanced passenger comfort. The buses have reverse cameras and vehicle location-tracking devices. To ensure the safety of the passengers, these buses will operate only when the doors are locked, he added.
Salem Corporation Commissioner Lalitaditya Neelam, District Revenue Officer R. Ravikumar, Deputy Mayor M. Saradha Devi, TNSTC Managing Director A. Krishnamoorthy and officials from departments concerned participated.
