A POCSO Special Court in Chennai on Friday (September 25, 2026) extended the judicial custody of octogenarian business magnate R. Veeramani of Gem Granites till October 9 in connection with the case relating to the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls.
The 84-year-old Veeramani and his alleged accomplices Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan were arrested by Central Crime Branch on August 29, and remanded in Puzhal Central Prison. Later, his assistant Ganeshan was also arrested in connection with the case.
As Mr. Veeramani’s judicial custody ended on Friday (September 25, 2026), he was produced before POCSO Special Court Judge S. Padma through video conference from Puzhal prison, citing security concerns. The Judge subsequently extended his judicial custody till October 9.
Meanwhile, the police have been interrogating Shanthi and Simhan after taking them into custody. The interrogation was conducted at CCB office in Police Commissionerate and later their house in Teynampet.

Earlier on Friday (September 25, 2026), the Tamil Nadu police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising women officers to investigate the sensational POCSO Act case involving the Gem Granites chairperson.
