Tesla India on Friday opened its sixth Experience Centre in the country at Express Avenue Mall in Chennai, expanding its retail and after-sales presence in Tamil Nadu.
The Chennai centre follows Tesla’s Experience Centres in Mumbai, Gurugram, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The company has also started service and body-shop operations in Chennai, taking its service and body-shop network in India to eight locations.
“We are very excited about it. We already have our experience centers in Mumbai, Gurugram, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and now we are in Chennai,” said Sharad Agarwal, Tesla India’s head.
Tesla said the Chennai Experience Centre would provide local consultation, test drives and vehicle delivery support. The company has also made a Tesla-approved collision centre and service capabilities available in Poonamallee, providing access to genuine Tesla parts, trained technicians, software-aware diagnostics and collision repair.
“We have built the capability to establish a home charging network anywhere in this country — in any city or state. And we are already delivering across the country. We have delivered Tesla in more than twenty-one states,” he said.
Tesla currently has five Supercharging stations in India and is also expanding destination charging and home charging infrastructure, Mr. Agarwal said.
The company follows a direct-to-consumer model, allowing customers to order vehicles without visiting an Experience Centre.
“You really don’t need the experience center to buy a Tesla. You can order your car anywhere in the world or in the country and we’ll bring the car to you,” he said.
Tesla currently offers the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive at ₹50.89 lakh, with a claimed range of up to 500 km under WLTP. The three-row, six-seat Model Y L starts at ₹61.99 lakh and has a claimed range of up to 681 km.
The company said customers placing orders in September could receive their vehicles before Diwali, subject to completing the required processes on time.

Mr. Agarwal said Tesla’s ownership model was designed to reduce the need for routine service visits. Tesla vehicles have no prescribed maintenance schedule, he claimed, and more than 70% of problems could be resolved remotely.
Tesla uses mobile service when problems cannot be resolved remotely, while workshop visits are reserved for more extreme cases.
The vehicles also receive new features through over-the-air software updates. Tesla recently introduced Grok AI in its cars, with Mr. Agarwal saying the assistant can interact with users in Indian languages, including Tamil, and control several vehicle functions through voice commands.
“With this Grok AI, you can actually control a lot of features inside the car. So you no longer have to touch and find the features. You just sit and give command,” he said.
