The Bantwal Rural police have seized three lorries filled with sand that was illegally extracted from the the river bed in Thumbe village of Bantwal taluk on Friday.
In a press note, the police said, on a tip off, a team led by Police Sub Inspector Rannagowda Patil raided the place. Inquiry revealed there was no permission for extraction and transportation of sand. Apart from three lorries filled with sand, the police seized two lorry loads of sand stocked at the place, an earth mover and other articles used to fill the sand.
The police registered a case against Nihan, Rajeek, Mohammed Shamsheer, Mohammed Ashraf, Stevan D’Souza and others for offences under Section 303 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Sections 4(1), 4(1)(a), 21 (1)(1a) of MMRD Act and Sections 42, 43, 44 of KMMC Rules, the police said.
