The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) will upgrade its ‘goshalas’ and animal care facilities to international standards, with emphasis on animal welfare, hygiene, safety and better living conditions, said TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary on Saturday.
At a meeting with the representatives of ‘Vantara’ – a rescue, rehabilitation and conservation project founded by Anant Ambani, the animal welfare initiative of Reliance Industries, at Tirumala, Mr. Chowdary reviewed a proposal for the voluntary development of TTD’s goshalas and associated animal care facilities. He called for a comprehensive plan to modernise the existing infrastructure and create a safer, cleaner and more comfortable environment for the animals.
Vantara representatives made a presentation outlining proposed improvements, including repairs and painting of structures, upgraded gates, protective mesh, better drainage, ventilation and provisions for feed and water. The plan also envisages landscaping around the goshalas to create a more congenial environment.
Mr. Chowdary directed officials to ensure that the infrastructure was designed keeping the movement and welfare of the cattle in mind, while maintaining adequate ventilation, hygiene and safety standards.
He also called for a comprehensive plan to maximise the production of milk and other dairy products required for the religious services of Lord Venkateswara within Tirumala itself. This would help meet the temple’s requirements while according greater priority to the conservation and welfare of cattle, he said.
