Construction work is under way to create a dedicated entry and exit facility at Nanganallur Metro Station towards Kathipara, providing commuters travelling between Meenambakkam Airport and Guindy-Kathipara a public access point.

Though it has been more than a year since the announcement, Chennai Metro Rail is yet to finish the construction of a second entry/exit at OTA-Nanganallur Road Metro Rail station.
In the 54-km Phase I and Phase I extension network, OTA-Nanganallur Road Metro Rail station is part of the Wimco Nagar-Chennai Airport corridor. While most of the stations in the Phase I network had 3-4 entry/exit points, OTA-Nanganallur was among the few which had only one entry/exit (situated in the direction of vehicle flow from Alandur to Chennai Airport). Many years after its opening, Chennai Metro Rail finally got the land to construct the second entry/exit in August last year, and this structure would provide access to passengers coming from the Chennai airport towards Alandur.
Chennai Metro Rail had earmarked 364 sq. metres for this structure and had awarded a contract for ₹8.52 crore in August last year. This facility had to be ready in eight months. But sources said there were quite a few challenges in executing the construction, since the structure was coming up close to the Officers’ Training Academy and they had to be cautious. There were also some interface issues which added to the delay, a source said. The construction started a few months back, and sources said that it might take another six months before the station gets the next entry/exit. “But we are trying our best to finish it at the earliest,” he added.
Close to 3,000 passengers either board or alight from the OTA-Nanganallur Road station and have been requesting a second access point for a long time now. Owing to the non-availability of the second entry/exit, passengers were compelled to take a detour before they can enter the station.
