Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has issued show-cause notices to 95 industries in the Parawada JN Pharma City area in Anakapalli district, following complaints on social media about black-coloured water flowing through drains and stormwater canals emanating foul odour.
The action followed videos posted on social media on Friday, showing black water flowing through drains and stormwater channels near the Pharma City.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan responded to the issue and directed the APPCB officials to inspect the area and submit a comprehensive report.
The APPCB officials conducted inspections at several locations in and around the Pharma City and collected samples from drains and stormwater channels.
The APPCB subsequently issued show-cause notices to all 95 industries operating within the Pharma City limits, seeking explanations for the alleged discharge of untreated waste. The industries have been given seven days to submit their replies.
Apart from issuing notices, the pollution control board has directed the industries to take a series of corrective measures to prevent the discharge of untreated wastewater and hazardous waste outside their premises.
