On this section of GST Road, the carriageway is plagued by wrong-side driving.
Motorcyclists from Raghavendiran Nagar, Sadasivam Road, and Ninnakarai in Mettukuppam heading to Thiruvalluvar Street, Bharathi Street, Kambar Street, and Pillaiyar Kovil Street, Potheri, have to take a U-turn on GST Road, along Level Crossing 44 Road. But they drive in the wrong direction on GST Road.
S. Varun, a two-wheeler rider, says, “It is better to ride along the median, as the riders jump lanes, posing a risk to the safety of vehicle users driving towards Maraimalai Nagar.
The motorcyclists along the localities drive at a high speed and change direction. The motorcyclists also drive too close to their those on GST Road, forcing them to swerve right and risking collisions.”
K. Anjali, a pedestrian, says, “A wide walkway with bollards and boundary railings should be constructed. There are three schools, and students and pedestrians are at risk. Motorcyclists scare the pedestrians by honking. Pedestrians’ movement is affected.”
