The City police organised the first ‘Appreciation Day’, as recommended by the Home department, on Saturday (September 26) to recognise police personnel and members of the public for exemplary service, exceptional courage, investigative skills and conduct, and contributions to public safety.
Sub-Inspector M. Saji, Senior Civil Police Officer Sajeesh P. and Home Guard Dhanesh of the Medical College police station were honoured for saving the life of a person who had attempted suicide. They acted on information received at the police control room. Their intervention had already won wide appreciation from the public.
Circle Inspector of Kunnamangalam police station K.P. Abhilash, Assistant Sub-Inspector T.M. Safiya, Senior Civil Police Officer K. Noufal and Civil Police Officer T.P. Sreejith were recognised for rescuing a man and his children. The man had locked the children inside a house, opened a gas cylinder and poured diesel over himself, threatening to set himself and the children on fire. The police personnel intervened jointly and brought the situation under control.
A seven-member team, including police officers and key coordinators who played an active role in organising the Kerala Police Sports and Athletic Games held in Kozhikode, was also felicitated. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the awardees at a function inaugurated by District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.P. Shoukathali at the Kozhikode City Police Club.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Padam Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police E. Sunilkumar, and Assistant Commissioners of Police T.K. Ashraf, P. Pramod, E. Premjith and N. Ganesh Kumar were also present.
