Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. and the Tamil Nadu Mine Safety Association (TNMSA) observed 66th mines safety week from September 21 to 26 to promote safety awareness, enhancing welfare measures, and encouraging best safety practices across the mining sector.
As part of the observance, 42 mines across the Tiruchi Zone were inspected by expert inspection teams constituted by TNMSA. The participating mines were classified under Category A, B, and C, and evaluated based on various parameters, including mine safety standards, occupational health practices, welfare facilities, housekeeping, environmental management, and overall safety performance.
About 350 delegates participated in the valedictory ceremony. Mohmad Niyazi, Director- General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Chennai Region, participated as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the vital role of collective responsibility in building a robust safety culture, underscoring this year’s central theme: “Safety beyond compliance to achieve Zero Harm.”
Hanumantha Rao, Deputy Director of Mines Safety (DDMS), Chennai Region, highlighted the need for continuous improvement in safety management systems and employee involvement in hazard identification and risk mitigation.
K. Vinayagamurthi, Executive Director and Cluster Head, Tamil Nadu, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd., who presided over the function, explained the industry’s commitment towards creating safe workplaces through technological advancements, employee engagement, and adherence to statutory safety standards.
