A three-day special drive against history-sheeted offenders and persons involved in activities disturbing public peace was held in the Avadi Police Commissionerate from September 26 to 28.
The drive, carried out on the directions of Avadi Commissioner of Police T. Senthilkumar, covered the Avadi and Red Hills police districts as part of preventive measures to curb crime. In the Avadi police district, personnel checked 508 people and registered 29 cases. A total of 38 persons, including history-sheeted offenders, were arrested. Of them, 20 were remanded in judicial custody, while 18 were released on station bail.
In the Red Hills police district, 221 people were checked and 48 cases were registered. As many as 29 persons were remanded in judicial custody and 19 released on station bail. The police also obtained good-behaviour bonds from 58 persons and warned and let off 115 others.
The police said the activities of habitual offenders and those involved in disturbing public peace would be closely monitored. Mr. Senthilkumar warned that stringent legal action would be taken against those continuing to indulge in criminal activities.
