The Namakkal Corporation conducted a drug de-addiction awareness programme for conservancy workers on Wednesday (September 30, 2026). A programme was also held to felicitate the conservancy workers.
In the awareness programme on preventing drug use, the physical and mental health effects of drug and substance abuse were explained to the workers. They were advised to completely avoid using intoxicating substances and prioritise their health, well-being and the future of their families. It was highlighted that drug addiction does not affect the individual alone, but also has a serious impact on the family members. In a discussion, it was mentioned that when a person is addicted to drugs, it can lead to financial difficulties, mental stress, strained family relationships and other issues within the family.
The participants were also sensitised that drug usage by parents can adversely affect children’s education, mental well-being, future prospects and social life. Since children look up to their parents as role models, parents were advised to act responsibly and ensure that children are brought up in a healthy and safe environment. The participants were further advised that if any co-worker addicted to drugs, they should not be neglected or isolated. Instead, they should be encouraged to seek appropriate counselling, treatment and professional assistance.
Similarly, in another programme, conservancy workers were felicitated for their dedicated services by Corporation Commissioner S. Selva Balaji.
