Through the District Industries Centre (DIC), in the past six months of the financial year 2026-27, loans totalling ₹45.08 crore were provided to 192 youth and entrepreneurs, with a subsidy of ₹12.92 crore in Salem district.
The State government, considering the economic development of the younger generation, is implementing various schemes, including the New Entrepreneur-cum-Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS), Unemployed Youth Employment Generation Programme (UYEGP), Annal Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme (AABCS), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Tamil Nadu Women Entrepreneur Empowerment Scheme (TWEES), and Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME).
Salem District Collector K. Elambahavath said that the entrepreneurship training is being provided to the educated youth under the NEEDS in order to help them become first-generation entrepreneurs. Furthermore, self-employment projects are being prepared, financial assistance is being provided, and business connections are being established with large industrial companies.
Under NEEDS, loans of ₹25.30 crore with a subsidy of ₹6.74 crore have been provided to 25 individuals to start businesses through the DIC in the financial year 2026-27. Under the UYEGP, loans of ₹2.45 crore with a subsidy of ₹61.29 lakh have been provided to 28 individuals. Under the TWEES, loans totalling ₹3.48 crore are provided to 57 individuals with a subsidy of ₹81.27 lakh.
Under the AABCS, a maximum of ₹1 crore was provided as a capital subsidy for manufacturing industries and loans to the tune of ₹10.33 crore have been provided to 52 individuals along with a subsidy of ₹3.61 crore. Likewise, under the PMFME, loans of ₹3.52 crore have been sanctioned to 30 individuals with a subsidy of ₹1.17 crore in six months, the Collector added.
