The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police attached to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption unit in Nagercoil to conduct an inquiry into a complaint that alleged that an advocate with political affiliation collected huge sums of money from practising advocates in Kanniyakumari district on the pretext of allocating government advocate posts for them.
The court was hearing a petition filed by B. Jeganraj of Udayamarthandam of Kanniyakumari district, who sought a direction to the DVAC to conduct an inquiry based on his representation and initiate appropriate action.
In his representation, the petitioner alleged that Anish, a person with some political allegiance and a Bar Association member, collected huge sums of money from practising advocates on the pretext of allocating government advocate posts in the district for them.
The petitioner had submitted a complaint in this regard. The State submitted that the complaint preferred by the petitioner had been forwarded to the Directorate of Prosecution.
Justice P. Murugan directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police, DVAC unit, Nagercoil, to conduct an inquiry into the matter as per the Tamil Nadu Vigilance Code and take an appropriate decision in four weeks from the date of receipt of the report from the Directorate of Prosecution. Having issued the direction, the Judge disposed of the petition.
