Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath Gupta said the government was aiming to develop Kurnool into sports hub.
The Minister on Wednesday inaugurated a football ground at the Kurnool Outdoor Stadium developed with an outlay of â‚ą3.50 crore. On the occasion, the Minister affirmed his commitment to development of sports in the city.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said though development works costing â‚ą3.50 crore had been completed, some additional works were still in progress.
“We are committed to providing world-class facilities to sportspersons. We have given special attention to the development of courts for volleyball, pickleball, football, and kabaddi, as well as installation of a synthetic walking track,” he said. He emphasised that special focus was being given on providing superior infrastructure for athletes. The Minister also said that the TGV family had consistently provided support and cooperation for the development of sports in Kurnool.
Mr. Bharath said the proposal to relocate the sports hostel in the city to another place had been stalled and issues related to the gym centre had been resolved.
Mr Bharath said media representatives should make extensive use of social media to give wide publicity to the developmental initiatives of the government. He said development activities were progressing rapidly across the State under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and called upon the public to extend their full support to the alliance government in the upcoming elections.
The Minister interacted with the players at the football stadium and inaugurated an exhibition match by kicking a ball on the occasion. Municipal Commissioner Challa Obulesu, sports coaches, presidents of sports associations, and players participated in the inaugural event.
