In a shocking incident, a woman, Selvarani (35) of Chokkanathanputhur was hacked to death by her husband, M. Boomiraja and his brother Ayyappan following a domestic quarrel, under Seithur police station limits on Tuesday night.
The police said that the couple were married for 15 years. But, the woman, a mother of two girl children, left the husband owing to his extra-marital affairs.
Meanwhile, Boomiraja’s family members had quarrelled on September 2 with the deceased woman to start her life afresh with her husband. Following this, the woman lodged a complaint with Seithur police.
Even as the police were enquiring the case, two days back the accused brothers had again picked a quarrel with Selvarani and her mother and threatened them with dire consequences.
When Selvarani and her mother were riding on a bike near Kamarajar Nagar, the accused waylaid them at around 8.45 p.m.
After a heated argument, the brothers attacked Selvarani with a knife and inflicted multiple injuries on her head, face, hand and shoulder.
The injured was rushed to the Government Hospital in Rajapalayam where doctors declared her brought dead.
The brothers surrendered before the police. Further investigation is under way.
