Man gets three years in jail for chain snatching in Salem

A court in Salem on Wednesday (September 30) sentenced a 29-year-old man to three years in jail for chain snatching.

According to police, Baby (72), a resident of Sivaji Nagar near Ammapet was walking down a road in the locality on May 2, 2016 when three persons, including Arunachalam (29) of Kitchipalayam, came on a motorcycle, attacked her and snatched her 4.5 sovereign chain.

The Ammapet police registered a case and arrested the trio. The case was tried before the District Mahila Court, which found Arunachalam guilty on Wednesday and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment and fined him ₹200. One of the accused died during the course of the trial. Another accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
