Collector appeals to people to stop breeding of dengue-causing mosquitos at grama sabha meeting

Virudhunagar Collector Sharanya Ari appealed to the people to ensure that rainwater did not stagnate in various articles left unused and lead to breeding of dengue-causing mosquitos.

Addressing the grama sabha meeting held at Vadamalakurichi in Virudhunagar union on Friday (October 2, 2026) on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, she said Aedis mosquito that caused dengue bred in stagnant water. By removing unwanted articles left in the open, the people could prevent spreading of dengue, she said.

The Collector said the people could also lessen the burden of cleanliness workers making door-to-door garbage collection by segregating degradable and non-degradable waste. This would also help conserve environment, she said.

People could know about the welfare schemes being implemented in their villages by the government and develop the infrastructure facilities at the grama sabha meetings she said.

The Collector said the demand of the people to upgrade the Government High School in the village as a higher secondary school would be considered. She also promised to take efforts on their demands for a bus shelter, protected drinking water, cleaning of sewerage, etc.

At the grama sabha meeting, the people discussed the expenditure incurred by the panchayat between April 1 and September 30, and took an AIDS awareness pledge.

Project Director (District Rural Development Agency) Vanathi, Joint Director of Agriculture Mohandoss Sowmiyan, Deputy Director of Horticulture A. Arumugam, Assistant Director (Panchayats) Muruganandam, Sattur Revenue Divisional Officer Kanagarajan were also present.
