Gram sabha meetings were held in villages across Madurai district on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Friday.
Madurai Collector Nishant Krishna presided over the gram sabha meeting held at Chettikulam panchayat in Madurai West panchayat union. Government officials were present.
Key issues such as the development works in Chettikulam panchayat, safe drinking water supply, solid waste management, sanitation, and education were discussed in detail during the gram sabha meeting. The Collector assured the residents that the grievances of the people would be redressed.
The objective of the gram sabha meeting was to ensure that all government welfare schemes including drinking water supply, sanitation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure fully reach the people at the grassroots level, the Collector said.
The Collector felicitated the sanitary workers, overhead tank operators and other workers. They were presented with shawls and gifts.
A ‘Cleanliness is Service’ pledge was administered at the meeting. Under the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission, the Collector handed over funds to the tune of ₹1 lakh each to two women’s self-help groups.
