The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will directly conduct a technical study to evaluate the feasibility of constructing two railway overbridges (ROBs) and an approach road to resolve the severe traffic congestion at Kallumthazham, N.K. Premachandran, MP has said after discussions with NHAI chairperson Santosh Kumar Yadav.
Earlier, an expert committee from TKM College of Engineering was tasked with examining technical solutions for the gridlock at Kallumthazham junction. Based on their findings, a meeting chaired by the MP at Kollam Collectorate had decided that a consultancy should be appointed to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on constructing two railway overbridges and an approach road.
As per the decision of the Collectorate meeting, the MP submitted a representation to NHAI officials urging the speedy appointment of a consultancy. However, pointing out their official policy that NHAI itself directly executes the construction of all railway overbridges along national highways, the authorities assured the MP that the agency will directly undertake the technical study without engaging an external consultancy. “Considering the urgency of the long-pending traffic bottleneck, NHAI officials have been requested to expedite the technical evaluation and arrive at an immediate decision to begin the work,” said the MP.
