A man from Kerala was arrested for allegedly posting a fake advertisement on social media claiming that properties belonging to a hospital in Madurai were available for sale.

Following a complaint from the chief administrative officer R. Manivannan of Velammal Medical College and Hospital, Madurai, the police registered a case under Sections 318 (2), 336 (4) of the BNS and among others.

The complainant had stated that the accused had posted on the social media that the properties belonging to the Velammal institutions were up for sale. This was absolutely fake and there was no truth in it, the chief administrative officer had mentioned, the police said.

Discreet probe revealed that a man identified as Aslam (49) of Edappally, Ernakulam, in Keralam had allegedly posted the advertisement. Based on his confession, a case was registered and he was produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

An investigation officer said here on Saturday that the incident has highlighted the need for the public to exercise caution regarding advertisements appearing on social media platforms and stated that legal action would be initiated against such tricksters.
